T HM Sampoerna Tbk. (Sampoerna) collaborated with PT Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI/IDX) and the Indonesia Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (IBCWE) to organize the second forum of the Women's Inspiring and Networking Group (WING) program. Prior to this, the joint initiative between Sampoerna, IDX and IBCWE, WING was launched on July 31 with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the women's empowerment program.

The follow-up forum, held at the main hall of IDX in Jakarta on Dec. 2, was attended by 90 female executives from several companies that are members of the IDX200. Its aim was to generate solutions which address the challenges faced by female workers in upholding dual roles.

With the theme of "Overcoming Challenges of Leadership and Care Responsibilities", the discussions focused on challenges faced by working women in balancing their careers with caregiving responsibilities at home.

According to the Future of Care Economy 2024 report by the World Economic Forum, challenges faced by female workers are often exacerbated by caregiving responsibilities, which are traditionally assigned to women.

Along with roundtable discussions and networking opportunities, participants had the chance to learn from the inspiring experiences of other female leaders during a panel discussion. The panel discussion featured director of people and culture at Sampoerna, Ripy Mangkoesoebroto; CEO of PT Vale Indonesia, Febriany Eddy; managing director of strategy and consulting at Accenture Indonesia, Debby Alishinta; and CEO of MyndfulAct, Hanindita Parama Setiadji.

Opening the WING forum, IDX director of finance, human resources, and general affairs Risa E. Rustam noted that the Census of Women in Executive Leadership Teams in IDX200 Companies found that only 15 percent of executive positions are held by women, and only 4 percent are led by female CEOs. The census was conducted by IDX and IBCWE and included 200 listed companies with the highest market capitalization and average transactions on the IDX in 2022.

“As a member of the Sustainable Stock Exchange, IDX is committed to continuing to support the achievement of the sustainable development goals related to gender equality and female empowerment. Our efforts include creating a platform for emerging female leaders, especially in listed companies, and better equipping female leaders with the necessary skills, knowledge, and networks. IDX collaborates together with PT. HM Sampoerna Tbk., and Indonesian Business Coalition and Women Empowerment (IBCWE) to hold the Women’s Inspiring and Networking Group (WING) program today for the second time.”

Sampoerna Director of People and Culture Ripy Mangkoesoebroto iterated the company’s commitment to creating value for all stakeholders, including employees and the wider community, is the basis for its support of the WING initiative.

“This initiative aims to inspire stakeholders in the working world about the importance of dialogue in formulating solutions to the challenges faced by female workers. In addition, the WING event is expected to raise public awareness and become an inspiration for working women from different sectors.”

The Director of People & Culture at PT HM Sampoerna Tbk. (Sampoerna), Ripy Mangkoesoebroto, expressed Sampoerna's commitment to creating value for employees and the community, particularly women, by supporting the Women's Inspiring and Networking Group (WING) initiative: “Overcoming Challenges of Leadership and Care Responsibilities“ at the Main Hall of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) on Monday (December 2, 2024). This event was a collaboration between Sampoerna, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), and the Indonesia Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (IBCWE).

Continuing the spirit of sustainability, IBCWE Executive Director Wita Krisanti added that one way to expand support for female empowerment in the working world is for both companies and the government to harmonize various policies regarding female workers.

“This is important because diversity and inclusion in the workplace contribute to business performance. Diversity can provide richer perspectives, allowing companies to make better decisions.”

As a company that has been operating in Indonesia for 111 years, Sampoerna consistently ensures inclusive and sustainable business operations, including equal career opportunities for all employees. As part of its "Three Hands" philosophy, every Sampoerna employee is entitled to equal opportunities for strategic positions.

This commitment is a way for the company to support Indonesia's efforts to strengthen the quality of superior human resources and promote national economic growth.

"Currently, female employees make up more than half of Sampoerna's total workforce. In fact, by the end of 2023, the proportion of female workers in Sampoerna's director and department head positions had reached 46 percent, an increase of 39 percent from the previous year. This exceeded our targets for the second year in a row," Ripy continued.

"Sampoerna believes that meritocracy-based equality practices are the most important factor in creating a supportive work environment. Therefore, through the WING 2024 event, we are optimistic that we will be able to strengthen our joint commitment to support the expansion of women's participation in the workforce; namely through networking of professional female leaders and balancing their caregiving responsibilities at home," concluded Ripy.
