T

he Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority chief, Basuki Hadimuljono, has acknowledged that prostitution is occurring near the site of the new capital city, but not within the core area.

“The prostitution practices take place in Sepaku region, some 3 kilometers from the development area,” he said on Wednesday, as quoted by Kompas.com.

Sepaku is a district in North Penajam Paser regency, East Kalimantan.

“We uncovered the practices during the Ramadan fasting month and we have conducted enforcement activities with various law enforcement agencies,” Basuki added.

Basuki said the North Penajam Paser Police and the regency administration’s Public Order Agency had joined the IKN Authority’s development control deputy in taking action against the activities.

“There were eight shady stalls that we have dismantled,” he said. “However, there is a possibility that the prostitution practices have moved to another place.”
