Sultan and Russian Ambassador Agree on BRICS+ Parliamentary Forum

ndonesia has officially become a member of the trans-regional BRICS+ cooperation. Brazil announced Indonesia’s acceptance as an official BRICS member following support from Russia, one of BRICS’ key nations.

Following Indonesia's entry into BRICS+, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Indonesia, Sergei Gennadievich Tolchenov, held a special meeting with the chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of Indonesia, Sultan B. Najamuddin, on Friday at the DPD RI chairman’s office in Senayan, Jakarta.

"We appreciate and express our gratitude for Russia's support in Indonesia's inclusion as a permanent BRICS member. We recognize that Russia is a major BRICS country with significant influence in the current geopolitical dynamics," Sultan told the media.

Sultan stated that the visit of Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, Sugiono, to Kazan just two days after the inauguration of President Prabowo Subianto demonstrated Indonesia's initial commitment to becoming part of BRICS. He emphasized that this trans-regional cooperation should be strengthened not only at the executive level, but also within the parliamentary institutions of BRICS member states.

"Indonesia's relations with BRICS+ member countries are not only driven by shared economic interests, but also by common diplomatic values and historical ties between past leaders. Russia and Indonesia will take the initiative in organizing the BRICS+ Inter-Parliamentary Forum," stressed the senator from Bengkulu.

According to him, there are numerous strategic cooperation opportunities that BRICS+ member countries can strengthen, necessitating greater commitment from all stakeholders in each nation, including their parliamentary institutions.

"Cooperation in education, social affairs, culture, economy, investment and politics requires commitment and consistency from all BRICS+ members. The BRICS+ parliamentary cooperation is expected to serve as a catalyst for strengthening BRICS+ multilateral collaboration," he concluded.
