T

he government has started a public consultation on draft regulations from the recently passed law legalizing the capital relocation, but critics have said the gesture is just for show.

At least 170 representatives from civil groups, indigenous groups, state institutions and ministries, as well as scholars were invited to the forum that was held on Tuesday and Wednesday in Balikpapan in East Kalimantan, about an hour's drive from the new capital city of Nusantara.

The forum discussed six planned documents – either in the form of government regulations (PP) or presidential regulations (Perpres) – that will regulate special autonomy, funding and budget allocation, spatial planning, land acquisition and management and the structure of the new capital city.

The discussion was described by Nusantara authority body head Bambang Susantono as "an important milestone in the efforts to allow public participation in the development of Nusantara".

He previously said his office would consist of government administrators and state-owned enterprises that would carry out the development and attract investors. "With better governance, more investors will believe that we have credibility and of course later trust will be built," Bambang said, as quoted by tempo.co on Monday.

The government also made the six draft regulations available online so people interested in contributing could access the draft regulations on the government website ikn.go.id/tentang-ikn, which also allows them to submit their ideas by signing up with personal data such as contact details and their last education.
