The police have named Terbit’s son, Dewa Perangin-angin and seven others suspects in human-trafficking crimes.
“We will also question the inactive regent and his brother,” said police spokesman Sr. Comr. Hadi Wahyudi, referring to Terbit’s younger brother Sribana Perangin-angin, who is the speaker of Langkat Legislative Council.
Hadi said that the eight suspects were deemed cooperative and as such were not detained.
The eight are suspected of being caretakers of the iron-barred cells and were allegedly involved in caging activities that led to the deaths of at least three victims.
The cages were discovered not long after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested the then-regent in January for allegedly demanding kickbacks from private contractors in exchange for infrastructure projects.
