fisherman couple and their toddler child were found dead after setting out to sea on a dinghy in the waters off Medan during bad weather on Wednesday, authorities said.

The North Sumatra water and aviation police found the bodies of Fahrul Ulum, 26, his wife Eflrida, 24 and their child, 2-year-old Azman between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the Belawan Lama waters.

The bodies were then brought to Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Medan.

“We are still waiting for autopsy results,” water and aviation police official Comr. PG Silaban said.

Irfan, Fahrul’s older brother, said his sibling and his family went out to fish for crabs on Tuesday night on the dinghy.

“The weather was bad that night with strong winds,” Irfan told The Jakarta Post.
