he immigration authorities in Nunukan regency in North Kalimantan have detained one Chinese and two Malaysian nationals for violating their stay permits following arrests by the Indonesian Navy in North Sebatik district.

Washington Saut Dompak, head of the Nunukan Immigration Office, said the foreigners visited and took pictures of high-security areas, namely, a border security post and Marine headquarters, on Wednesday.

The Malaysian nationals, identified by the initials HJK and LBS, and the Chinese national, BJ, were taken by Indonesian national YBY – a construction company executive based in Sabah, Malaysia – to survey areas in Sebatik for a bridge construction plan.

“They were not aware that one of the locations they took pictures of included high-security objects, the border post and the military headquarters,” Washington said on Friday in a statement issued by the Law and Human Rights Ministry.

He said the three foreigners would be held in Nunukan Immigration Detention Center for the next 30 days. The immigration office would meet with local law enforcement to discuss the allegations of crime on Monday.
