he South Jakarta District Court sentenced Kuat Ma’ruf, a private chauffeur of disgraced police general Ferdy Sambo, to 15 years in prison on Tuesday for his role in the premeditated murder of Ferdy’s aide-de-camp Brig. Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat.
The sentence was nearly double the eight years sought by prosecutors.
The three-member bench said Kuat’s involvement in the murder plot started in Ferdy’s house in Magelang, Central Java, on July 7, a day before Yosua was murdered in Jakarta.
Kuat had been taking care of Ferdy’s children at the residence. The judges said Kuat had encountered Yosua leaving the private quarters of Putri in the Magelang house while Ferdy was in Jakarta.
Judge Morgan Simanjuntak said Kuat had chased Yosua out of the house with a kitchen knife in his hand and had threatened Yosua that he would be “finished by the Magelang squad” if he was ever found in Putri’s quarters again.
Kuat then, Morgan said, urged Putri to tell Ferdy about her “altercation” with Yosua so that there would “be no thorns in their marriage".
“[The judges have concluded that] the thorn the defendant was referring to was Yosua and that the Magelang squad consists of himself and Ricky,” Morgan said, referring to Ricky Rizal, a police brigadier and another aide-de-camp to Ferdy. Ricky was guarding the Magelang house at the time.
