resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo warned the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) not to make the fur fly in the dismissal of a police officer from a strategic position in the investigation department at the antigraft body.
In response to a recent quarrel about the dismissal of National Police officer Brig. Gen. Endar Priantoro from his position as KPK investigations director, Jokowi said that every institution had a firing mechanism that should be followed accordingly.
"In every institution, there is a mechanism. There are rules, everything is there. So just follow that. We hope that the transfer or mutation will not create a furor," Jokowi said on Wednesday.
The dispute arose when KPK chief Firli Bahuri dismissed Endar from his position despite National Police chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s order that Endar stay at his post at the KPK.
Endar claimed Listyo had signed a letter calling for his tenure at the KPK to be extended for another year. But the one-star general said he received a termination letter signed by the antigraft body secretary-general Cahya Harefa on March 31.
Endar then filed a complaint against Firli and Cahya to the supervisory board. He alleged that the two had committed an ethics violation by relieving him of his duties as KPK investigations director against Listyo’s order.
Meanwhile, the KPK had appointed state attorney Ronald Worotikan as acting investigation director.
