ormer two-star police general Ferdy Sambo, his wife Putri Chandrawati and their former driver Kuat Makruf have filed cassation appeals to the Supreme Court, in hopes of lessening their sentences for the roles they played in the murder of Ferdy’s former aide-de-camp Brig. Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat.
South Jakarta District Court spokesperson Djumyanto said that Ferdy had filed a cassation appeal on May 12, while Putri and Kuat filed on May 9 and 15, respectively.
“The cassation appeals were filed by each lawyer to the criminal registry office at the South Jakarta District Court,” Djumyanto said on Wednesday, adding that the three had filed their memorandum of appeal before 14 days, in accordance with the law.
The cassation appeals were filed to reduce the Jakarta High Court verdict that upheld the three’s sentences.
Last month, the appellate court agreed with the South Jakarta District Court verdict that Ferdy was guilty of premeditated murder of his aide-de-camp Yosua and for tampering with evidence to orchestrate a cover-up, and sentenced him to death.
In court, Ferdy was proven guilty of orchestrating a cover-up of Yosua’s murder, in which he claimed Yosua was killed at Ferdy’s official residence in South Jakarta in a shoot-out with Second Agent Richard Eliezer, another aide-de-camp assigned to Ferdy.
Ferdy was also proven guilty of tampering with the police investigation by instructing several police officers to destroy CCTV footage that showed Yosua still alive when Ferdy entered the house, in an attempt to maintain the narrative that Ferdy had nothing to do with the murder of Yosua. Richard was junior to Yosua.
