The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is still tracking down the whereabouts of fugitive Harun Masiku after receiving information that the politician is hiding abroad.

Harun, a politician of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), remains at large more than three years after he was named graft suspect by the KPK on Jan. 9, 2020.

Harun is accused of bribing then-General Elections Commission (KPU) commissioner Wahyu Setiawan in exchange for securing a seat at the House of Representatives that was left vacant by deceased PDI-P member, Nazarudin Kiemas.

“We won't stop hunting for the graft fugitive, with the help of the National Police. It is our duty to bring him to court,” KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri told The Jakarta Post on Sunday. But Ali refused to provide further details on how the KPK has been trying to track down Harun.

The KPK investigations director Asep Guntur Rahayu said on Friday that his office received information that Harun had once again escaped abroad through illegal routes. The KPK, Asep said, had deployed a team to track down the politician but to no avail.

Asep did not mention when Harun fled abroad but he denied a recent statement by National Police international relations division head Insp. Gen. Krishna Murti that the corruption fugitive had returned to Indonesia.

"What [Krishna said] is based on old data. Until now, Harun's whereabouts have not been recorded," Asep said.
