ational Police chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo has ordered a thorough investigation into the death of police officer Setyo Herlambang, who was found dead last week of a gunshot wound to the chest, with a pistol lying on the ground next to him.
The body of the police brigadier was found in his living quarters near the official residence of North Kalimantan Police Chief Insp. Gen. Daniel Aditya Jaya on Friday at around 1 p.m. local time, according to a statement from the North Kalimantan Police.
Preliminary findings by the North Kalimantan Police's internal affairs division (Propam) and their general crimes unit indicated that the brigadier was cleaning his 9-millimeter semiautomatic HS pistol when he accidentally discharged the weapon and shot himself. The findings ruled out suicide in the incident.
Setyo, at the time of the incident, worked as Daniel’s adjutant.
Speaking to the press on Sunday, Listyo said that he had ordered Daniel to thoroughly and carefully investigate the death of his adjutant. He also instructed the Central Forensics Laboratory (Puslabfor) and the Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) of the National Police in Jakarta to assist in the investigation.
“Therefore, the results will be accountable to the public and Setyo’s family,” Listyo said on Sunday.
Listyo declined to comment further on the details of the case, pending a definitive conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
