"In the middle of November, on the 15th, we can begin the printing work for the ballot papers," said KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari, as quoted by Antara.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) has scheduled to start the printing of ballot papers for next year's general election on Nov. 15, shortly after it officially announces the presidential candidates eligible to run.
"In the middle of November, on the 15th, we can begin the printing work for the ballot papers," KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari said, as quoted by Antara.
Hasyim, however, said the commission would first consult leaders of political parties at the regional level before it could give the go-ahead for the ballot paper production.
"Between the 5th and 7th of November, leaders of the regional election commissions will be in Jakarta to give their approval after they get a nod from the regional party leaders," Hasyim said.
More than 204 million eligible voters are expected to cast their ballot on Feb. 14, 2024, to elect the next president of Indonesia and members of the legislative branches of the government.
Three presidential candidates have registered to join the February race.
Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and running mate Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka registered with the KPU late in October against a backdrop of political drama and the controversial court ruling that removed the legal barrier for Gibran, the eldest son of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, to run in the race.
