A

magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Halmahera, North Maluku on Wednesday, the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) said.

The quake was at a depth of 120 km (74.56 miles), GFZ added.

The National Disaster Mitigation agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment when asked if there has been any damage.

In early November, a 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck in Banda Sea, but no immediate reports of damage or casualties were reported. 

The shallow quake, located far from the coast, the USGS said. The national geophysics agency issued no tsunami warning. 

Indonesia straddles the "Pacific Ring of Fire", an area of high seismic activity that rests atop multiple tectonic plates.
