inance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati called on government workers under the ministry's customs and excise office to maintain neutrality in the upcoming presidential election, amid speculations that she would soon tender her resignation to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.

Sri Mulyani delivered the message during an official meeting held by the customs office on Thursday.

"During this election year, please watch your attitude. Neutrality is a must," Sri Mulyani said in a statement published after the meeting.

The senior economic minister also said that government workers are free to exercise their political rights by supporting a presidential ticket, but they can only do so inside the voting booth.

"You can have your own preference. But that only happens in the voting booth," Sri Mulyani said.

Sri Mulyani's call for neutrality during the election came as speculation is mounting that she had planned to resign from the cabinet over a number of political differences with the President.
