Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo said better infrastructure would cut transportation costs that had contributed to the fluctuation of commodity prices.
Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo promises to protect oil palm and rubber plantation farmers amid the current price uncertainty of the two commodities in Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of Borneo island.
The former Central Java governor said transportation costs had contributed to the unpredictability of the prices. Better infrastructure at the village and regional level, he said, could be a solution in the plantation areas.
“[The road network in plantations] is the infrastructure that we need to focus on so that farmers and plantation owners can get the best prices [for their commodities],” he said during a campaign event in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.
Ganjar said better infrastructure would cut transportation costs that contributed to the fluctuation of the two commodities' prices.
He also said he would solve fertilizer scarcity and palm oil supply problems.
“Palm oil is Indonesia’s flagship product and its management should be directly under president,” he said.
