Deputy chairman of Prabowo's campaign team Afriansyah Noor said the news about the defense minister receiving treatment for a stroke was part of a misinformation campaign targeted at the presidential candidate.
The campaign team of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto issued a statement on Thursday to counter speculation that the defense minister had suffered a stroke and was under intensive care in a Jakarta hospital.
Deputy chairman of Prabowo's campaign team Afriansyah Noor said the news about the defense minister receiving treatment for a stroke was part of a misinformation campaign targeted at the presidential candidate.
"It's a hoax. He is still doing alright and healthy," Afriansyah said in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
An unconfirmed report circulated on social media on Thursday that Prabowo had fallen ill after delivering a speech on the campaign trail in Sumedang, West Java, and was taken to the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital in Central Jakarta.
Responding to the report, head of the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital Lt. Gen. Albertus Budi Sulistya said there was no patient under the name of Prabowo Subianto currently being treated at the facility.
"Not true, it's a hoax," Budi said, as quoted by Antara.
On Thursday, local media outlets in East Java reported that Prabowo was hitting the campaign trail in Malang, where he delivered his campaign speech and entertained the crowd with his signature 'gemoy' (adorable) dance.
