Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan emphasized the untapped potential of Indonesia's e-sports sector during his Desak Anies (Urge Anies) campaign event at the MAC Ballroom Semarang, Central Java, on Monday.

Anies stressed the need for the government to pay attention to e-sports as a new sporting domain and recognize its promising prospects for the future.

“Number one is recognition [for the e-sports sector]. If it is acknowledged, various facilities can be provided to nurture its excellence, create employment opportunities, and promote Indonesia's reputation," said Anies, as quoted by bisnis.com news portal.

During the event, Anies acknowledged the valuable input from e-sports enthusiasts.

He expressed his commitment to gathering suggestions for developing e-sports in Indonesia and advocated for a collaborative approach with the gaming community.

According to the presidential candidate, the government should not presume to know best. Instead, it should engage with gamers, understand their needs and actively contribute to fostering a thriving gaming ecosystem.

Addressing his plans to facilitate the industry's expansion, Anies also underscored the significance of implementing sound regulations and fiscal policies.
