The flooding has also affected three villages in Kertajati district, West Java, namely Jagawana, Palasah and Pakubeureum.
eavy rainfall on Sunday caused flooding along the Cipali toll road, submerging the tollgate and cutting road access to Kertajati International Airport in West Java.
Rezza Permana, a disaster management officer from Majalengka Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD Majalengka), said heavy rain from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday flooded the toll road, submerging the Kertajati tollgate by about 60 centimeters. He warned that the floodwaters could rise as high as 1.5 meters.
Rezza said the collapse of the Cipelang River dike in Kertajati district, Majalengka regency, led to the flooding. He noted that the dike had collapsed before in 2021.
The floodwaters affected several vehicles intending to enter the Cipali toll road through the Kertajati tollgate. Drivers had to turn back through other toll gates because of the water level, and many vehicles got stuck as a result of drivers trying to get through the flood.
According to Lulu, a resident, the road access to and from the Kertajati tollgate is impassable.
"I was going to pick up my friend at the Kertajati tollgate because he was supposed to be dropped off at Jatiwangi [district in Majalengka regency], but the bus driver dropped him off at the [Kertajati] tollgate instead, saying they could not pass through here due to the flooding," Lulu said.
Floods have also affected three villages in the Kertajati district, namely Jagawana, Palasah and Pakubeureum.
"Around 3,500 people and 1,500 houses are affected by the flooding. Additionally, on the main road artery, there is flooding for 200 meters and to a depth of 60 cm. The main road artery is right at the Kertajati tollgate," Rezza said.
