ersonnel from the Operation Cartenz Peace 2024 task force arrested on Sunday Alenus Tabuni, sometimes known as Kobuter, a member of the Free Papua Movement (OPM) armed criminal group, a spokesman reported on Monday.

Alenus was arrested in front of the community health center in Ilaga district, Puncak regency, Papua, and is currently being detained at the task force headquarters for interrogation.

Task force commander Sr. Comr. Faizal Ramadhani said that Alenus was previously part of an armed group led by Goliath Tabuni before joining another group led by Numbuk Telengan in Puncak regency, Central Papua province.

Spokesman for the task force, Adj. Sr. Comr. Bayu Suseno, detailed the crimes in which Alenus was allegedly involved, including the burning of PT Unggul's base camp in Jenggerpaga village, Ilaga district, Puncak regency, on Feb. 11, 2021.

"His role was to bring kerosene from the kitchen, then pour it and set it on fire," said Bayu, as quoted by tempo.co news portal.

Since then, Alenus is alleged to have been involved in 11 recorded crimes, with the latest incident being a shootout between the armed criminal group and the Indonesian Military and the National Police on Feb. 4. There were no casualties in the incident.
