oordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan congratulated the Golkar Party leadership for what he termed as an impressive electoral performance in the Feb. 14 legislative election.

Speaking after a meeting with Golkar Chairman Airlangga Hartarto on Thursday, Luhut said that under the chairman’s leadership, the party managed to achieve a feat that would improve the party's standing in national politics.

Based on the official vote count conducted by the General Election Commission (KPU), Golkar Party is expected to bag at least 102 seats in the House of Representatives for the 2024-2029 period, up from the 85 seats it currently controls in the legislature.

"I can only hope that Golkar can remain solid and will not be allow itself to be influenced by others," Luhut said in a recorded video statement with Airlangga sitting next to him.

Based on the unofficial quick count survey conducted by several Jakarta-based pollsters on election day, Golkar is expected to be in second place after the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) with at least 14 percent of the national vote.

Golkar insiders have attributed the electoral success to the party's leadership decision to join the alliance put together by outgoing President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to back the candidacy of Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.
