The NasDem Party is exploring Anies Baswedan’s potential candidacy in the Jakarta gubernatorial election. However, the former presidential candidate said he was prioritizing resolving election disputes before confirming a regional bid.
he NasDem Party's Central Executive Board (DPP) executive for Sumatra 2, Willy Aditya, announced that his party had opened discussions with Anies Baswedan regarding his potential participation in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election.
Willy said that Anies met with NasDem chairman Surya Paloh to discuss the matter on March 18, however, they had not met since then.
He said that Surya had been in Bali and only returned to Jakarta on Saturday, but he believed both had communicated.
NasDem has already contacted Muhaimin "Cak Imin" Iskandar, Anies' running mate, during the presidential election.
"We already talked and tested the water with Mas Anies. Pak Surya said that politics must continue; we cannot stay idle,” Willy said at the NasDem Tower on Monday, as quoted by Kompas.
“If Bung Anies wants to join the regional election, then let’s go; NasDem is ready."
However, the DPP executive noted that Anies expressed his desire to resolve the dispute regarding the presidential election in the Constitutional Court before committing to the regional election.
