The former news anchor, a Jokowi supporter who is close to PSI chair Kaesang, did not divulge any details, only confirming that she had been given a new role was in the administration of the outgoing President.
race Natalie, the outspoken deputy chair of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) board of trustees, said on Wednesday that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo had appointed her to a new role in his administration.
"It's just a meeting with the President. There's an assignment for me. Yes, for me," Grace told reporters shortly after her private meeting with Jokowi at the State Palace in Central Jakarta.
The former television news anchor declined to elaborate further, confirming only that she had been appointed to a position in the Jokowi administration.
"Yes, it will be in the government," she said.
A staunch Jokowi supporter and a close ally of PSI chairman Kaesang Pangarep, the President’s youngest son, contested the legislative elections in February but did not win a seat in the House of Representatives, despite getting the largest number of votes to represent Jakarta in the national legislature.
The final tally showed that the PSI had failed to meet the minimum threshold of 4 percent needed to gain a seat in the House.
Grace was elected as the youth-oriented party’s chair in 2015 at the age of 32. She stepped down from the position in 2021 and was replaced by interim chairman Giring Ganesha until Kaesang was elected as chairman on Sept. 25, 2023, just two days after he joined as a member.
