rom the government’s constant efforts to start a partnership with Elon Musk to ministers posing proudly with him on social media, netizens have noticed an unhealthy obsession the country has with the tech mogul.
Musk recently visited Indonesia for the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali, which ran from May 18 to 25, where he addressed the importance of water management and inaugurated the Starlink satellite internet service, a subsidiary of Musk’s firm SpaceX.
On the sidelines of his visit, the tech tycoon also met President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to talk about further investments he could make in the country.
The series of events marked the first time Musk visited Indonesia after promising several times to visit the archipelago. Arriving on May 19, Musk was welcomed by a number of ministers who also attended the WWF.
But the government officials’ attitudes have drawn jeers from the public as they seemed “obsessed” with the billionaire, following years of attempts to lure him to invest in the country.

Many social media users pointed to photos of ministers standing behind Musk as an example of the obsession.
