For years, a July complaint alleges, the company's employees were obliged to work extended hours while enduring abusive treatment, such as being slapped and choked. They were also reportedly denied rightful overtime pay.
n July, Anna, not her real name, lodged a formal complaint with the Manpower Ministry against her former workplace, animation company Brandoville Studios, contending that some of her ex-colleagues were suffering severe physical and psychological abuse while working on projects for high-profile international game and movie companies.
For years, the complaint alleged, the employees were obliged to work extended hours while enduring abusive treatment, such as being slapped and choked. They were also reportedly denied rightful overtime pay.
“At one point in 2022, an animator passed away of a heart attack while working non-stop during a holiday for a popular animated film,” she told The Jakarta Post on Sunday.
“Fear dominated the workplace. Since I was no longer working there, I took the initiative to lodge a formal complaint on behalf of my ex-colleagues,” she added.
However, she did not hear anything back from the Manpower Ministry. Nor did she receive a response to a separate report she filed with the Jakarta Manpower Agency.
