T

he Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is waiting for a decision from chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri on whether it is to join the incoming administration of president-elect Prabowo Subianto, a high-ranking party official has said.

PDI-P executive and lawmaker Eriko Sotarduga said the nationalist party was yet to hold a formal discussion on its positioning with respect to the incoming government, stressing that the decision was entirely up to Megawati.

“That’s the prerogative of the party chairwoman,” Eriko said on Friday, as quoted by tempo.co.

“Let’s just wait together. [...] Let her decide what is best for the party and the Indonesian people,” he said.

Smiling, Eriko added that no date had been set for a potential meeting between Megawati and Gerindra Party patron Prabowo, urging journalists to “just wait” for more information.

Since winning the 2024 presidential election in February, Prabowo has swiftly reached out to his rivals, including the PDI-P, offering them a chance to join the ruling coalition led by his Gerindra Party to form a working government following his inauguration on Oct. 20.
