A Gerindra Party politician has said Prabowo is prepared to sign a presidential decree on the relocation of the nation's capital once he has been installed, though his current priority is on forming his cabinet.
resident-elect Prabowo Subianto plans to issue a presidential decree on the relocation of the nation’s capital from Jakarta to Nusantara after he takes office on Oct. 20, a close aide has confirmed.
This year’s Independence Day was originally set as the date for the formal transfer of capital city status to Nusantara in East Kalimantan, but President Joko “Jokowi” postponed issuing the relevant decree citing several issues hampering the mega project, from lack of foreign investment to land issues.
His successor Prabowo is ready to sign the decree, which will mark the end of Jakarta as the Indonesian capital, according to Gerindra politician Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who was reelected last week as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“It’s supposed to [be signed by Prabowo],” Dasco said on Monday, as quoted by tempo.co.
He stopped short of mentioning when the decree would be issued however, saying only that Prabowo would sign it “at the right time”.
“At the moment, Pak [Mr.] Prabowo is still busy with drafting and reviewing the decree on ministries, which will be announced soon,” Dasco said.
