female migrant worker from Temanggung regency, Central Java, who had been lost for 20 years as a victim of human trafficking, has been recently found safely in Malaysia.
Seni, a resident in Mergowati village, Kedu district, bid farewell to her family to work in Malaysia in 2004. She left her son Riki Alfian, who was three years old back then.
She was able to communicate with her family in the first six months of working in Malaysia. Seni said that her employer was cruel and did not pay her salary. Contact with Seni was cut after that, causing her family great anguish.
Two weeks ago, however, there was a human trafficking network intercepted in Malaysia. One of the victims was Seni. Her family was happy upon hearing this news.
“I would like to thank all parties, the government, the Indonesian Embassy [in Malaysia], Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi and Temanggung Regent [Agus Setyawan],” Riki said in his house on Tuesday.
“We received news that my mother is healthy, safe and sound conditions, […] efforts are being made to repatriate her.”
