A

joint search and rescue team has recovered all eight bodies of those involved in a helicopter crash in the dense forests of West Kalimantan, confirming that there were no survivors after hours of evacuation efforts in difficult, steep terrain on Thursday night.

The Airbus Helicopter EC130 T2, operated by PT Matthew Air Nusantara, lost contact on Thursday morning after departing from a plantation area in Nanga Keruap village, Menukung district, Melawi regency, bound for Sungai Ambawang in Kubu Raya regency.

According to the Transportation Ministry, the aircraft took off at 7:37 am and transmitted a distress signal at 8:39 am over a forested area before contact was lost at 9:15 am. Air navigation service provider AirNav Indonesia later declared a full emergency alert at 10:43 am in line with standard procedures.

After search efforts via air and land routes, authorities confirmed the helicopter had crashed in a forested area in Nanga Taman district, Sekadau regency, in “challenging terrain with steep slopes and limited access,” Pontianak Search and Rescue (SAR) Office head I Made Junetra said on Thursday.

On Friday, he confirmed that all the bodies had been found, but no one survived. “We extend our deepest condolences to the families,” he said in a statement.

The helicopter was carrying pilot Capt. Marindra W, engineer Harun Arasyd and six passengers identified as Patrick K, a Malaysian national, Victor T, Charles L, Joko C, Fauzie O and Sugito.
