pple is said to be developing an SOS button for emergency calls to be installed in the latest iOS operating system. Thus, if in danger, a user could simply push the button to directly connect to the police.
As reported by kompas.com, the tech giant has presented the prototype version to developers and plans to add the feature to the upcoming iOS update.
The SOS button will work when users push the power button five times. Afterwards, a short countdown to the emergency call will appear.

The feature is said to be slated for release for markets including the US, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, China, France, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Russia, Spain and the UK. There is no news yet on whether it will be available for other countries.
Apple's smartphones already have an emergency call feature, which can be enabled by pushing a certain phone number when the screen is locked. But this upcoming feature promises easier operation amid unexpected circumstances. (fmn/kes)
