irbus is looking into revolutionizing urban travel by developing a single-passenger vehicle, package delivery drones and autonomous buses.
The aerospace company's CEO Tom Enders shed light on what the company is working on with the attendees of the Digital Life Design conference in Munich. According to Reuters, Enders expressed his hope to demonstrate ‘Vahana’, a single-manned, autonomously-piloted flying vehicle, by the end of the year.
“One hundred years ago, urban transport went underground, now we have the technological wherewithal to go above ground. We are in an experimentation phase, we take this development very seriously. With flying, you don’t need to pour billions into concrete bridges and roads," he said as quoted by Digital Trends.

Enders suggests that Airbus needs to capitalize on emerging autonomous driving and artificial technologies. He further asserts that if they are neglected, the company will be squeezed out of important segments in the business.
Retailers like Amazon and DHL are said to be potential customers of the Airbus Skyways project after they put their parcel delivery drones out on the market.
Set to be a pioneer in the flying vehicle business, Airbus also offers a concept called CityAirbus, which features a multiple-passenger, electrically-operated flying vehicle that resemble a small drone with propellers. (nik/kes)
