harmendra Kumar Tyagi (DKT) Indonesia, an organization that focused on family planning services and HIV/AIDS prevention had just launched the educational website tundakehamilan.com in its 20th anniversary event on Thursday.
The site contains information about types and usages of contraceptives. Aditya “Adit” A. Putra, the general manager of the Reproductive Health and Contraceptive Business Unit of DKT Indonesia, stated that the site was expected to provide education about contraceptives, which was a part of family planning.
“Basically, we want to make it easier for the public to access the information they need,” said Adit. He also noted that DKT perceived digital platforms as a very effective medium to reach the younger generation.

Eni Gustina, Head of the Health Ministry’s health promotion center said family planning was important to reduce the amount of maternal and infant deaths. According to a 2015 survey by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), 305 maternal deaths occurred for every 100,000 births in the country. She remarked that by setting pregnancy intervals to 4-5 years, maternal death could be reduced to 25 percent and infant deaths to 18 percent.
Eni also stated that family planning was necessary to control population growth. She mentioned that there were 5.3 million pregnant mothers in the country every year.
“If it continues being this way, how large would our population be by 2020? This could bring problems for Indonesia,” she said. (asw)
