After less than a year of being off the air, American Idol has been resurrected by ABC.
American Idol’s original producer, FremantleMedia, has partnered with ABC to bring the show back to air in time for the 2017-2018 television season.
Having originally run for sixteen seasons on Fox, the singing competition was canceled in 2016 due to failing ratings.
"Idol is an entertainment icon, and now it will air where it belongs, in ABC’s lineup of addictive fan favorites alongside Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor. America, get ready for the return of a bigger, bolder and better-than-ever Idol,” said Ben Sherwood, President of Disney-ABC, as quoted by Mashable.

ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey echoed Sherwood’s sentiments. “American Idol is a pop-culture staple that left the air too soon. ABC is the right home to reignite the fan base. We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realizing their dreams.”
While no hosts or judges have been announced yet, some speculate that Ryan Seacrest may return to his previous title of Idol’s host due to his recent move to ABC as the co-host of Live with Kelly and Ryan. (sul/kes)
