Film is a magical medium that lets you escape your sometimes dull, mundane life and transports you to other places.

Even if you are already familiar with the story, the visuals and storytelling are treats in themselves.

Here are some adaptations to watch out for:

Release date: Sept. 8

It tells a suburban mystery that hits too close to home. When children start disappearing in Derry, Maine, a group of kids initiate their own investigation of the monster threatening their town and their innocence too.

When Stephen King tweeted praise for the remake, we knew we should definitely be afraid of something.

Victoria & Abdul

Release date: Sept. 22

Any story about a British monarch is always intriguing, much more one based on true occurrence. Adapted from a book with the same name by Shrabani Basu, the movie tells of the improbable friendship between Queen Victoria and Abdul, an envoy turned servant turned teacher.

Murder on the Orient Express

Release date: Nov. 10

The movie is adapted from arguably the best among all Agatha Christie novels (and that is definitely something). Murder on the Orient Express tells how Hercule Poirot investigates a murder on a train where every passenger is a suspect. From a butler, a widow, a professor to a princess, Poirot must tell who is guilty and who is not.

Wonder

Release date: Nov. 17

August Pullman is a fifth grader about to enter a real school for the first time. Born with facial deformity, he has undergone 27 surgeries, but none of them make him look like an ordinary kid. The movie shows how August struggles making friends and his confidence issues due to other kids' mockery.

Midnight Sun

Release date: Jan. 28, 2018

Adapted from Japanese movie Taiyō no Uta (Song of the Sun), Midnight Sun follows the life of teenage girl Katie Price (Bella Thorne) who is confined due to a rare disease that makes sunlight lethal to her. She begins hiding her condition after meeting Charlie (Patrick Schwarzenegger). (kes)
