Actor Joe Taslim is set to make his first appearance on an American TV show in Cinemax’s upcoming war drama Warrior.

According to kompas.com, Joe first announced the news on his LINE account on Thursday.

“I just want to share my next project this year, Warrior,” he wrote. “It is my first American TV project, I finally have the chance to learn again.”

The actor, who has just wrapped up production on the South Korean film Swordsman, also provided a hint on what could be the shooting location for Warrior.

“South Korea is done, next is… South Africa,” Joe added.

Warrior is said to set in San Francisco’s Chinatown during the Tong Wars in the late 1800s. According to deadline.com, Joe will portray a lieutenant and kung fu master named Li Yong.

Confirmed cast members include Andrew Koji, Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Dianne Doan, Kieran Bew and Dean Jagger. Principal photography will reportedly start in mid-October.

Featuring 10 episodes, Warrior is said to be inspired by legendary martial artist Bruce Lee. Justin Lin, the director of Fast & Furious 6 that also features Joe as one of the cast members, serves as the series’ executive producer alongside Jonathan Tropper, Danielle Woodrow and Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee.

“[I’m] about to start production on Warrior-Bruce [Lee]’s original idea,” Lin wrote on his Twitter account. “Game on!” (wir/kes)
