View all search resultsollaboration and unity are the themes of Jakarta Fashion Week’s (JFW) 10th anniversary, featuring a unified showcase of designers and designs from Indonesia and abroad.
Hundreds of designers, including well-known Indonesian fashion names such as Anne Avantie, Tex Saverio, Peggy Hartanto, Sebastian Gunawan and Auguste Soesastro decorated the runway with much-anticipated designs.
Designers and fashion institutions from South Korea, Sweden, Australia, India, the United Kingdom and Japan are also participating in the event, which is being held once again at Senayan City shopping mall in Central Jakarta. Discussions held by the Jakarta Creative Hub, fashion schools and the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), as well as design competitions for budding fashionistas, will also be included in the week’s festivities.
The fact that the showcase has reached its 10th anniversary is significant, says JFW chairwoman and CEO of Femina Group Svida Alisjahbana as it has succeeded in its goal to showcase local designers to global fashion players
“This decade-long journey has not been easy, but we are very proud to witness a large range of collaboration between us and key enablers in the global fashion industry: foreign designers, textile factories, retailers, local governments, fashion schools and even bloggers or Instagrammers,” she said during the opening ceremony on Saturday.
The theme adopted for this year is “Bhinneka dan Berkarya” (Diversity and Creation), emphasizing and celebrating the openminded and experimental nature of the fashion industry.
“We can only create if we embrace all our differences and expose ourselves to new things all the time,” Svida added.
