espite being announced as guests, a source has confirmed that K-pop boyband EXO will not attend the 27th Seoul Music Awards (SMA) on Jan. 25, as the group is scheduled to attend an event in Japan on the same day.
As reported by Antara new agency, the source said the band reportedly scheduled last year a series of promotional events in Japan for the upcoming Jan. 31 launch of EXO's Japanese studio album Countdown.
Another source said the band had informed SMA of its plans when it was first contacted about the nominations, noting that it would be difficult for the group to attend due to the scheduled activities for their upcoming album.
“Due to the nature of an awards ceremony, where the results and attendees are not revealed beforehand, we are not able to confirm whether EXO will be attending or not. Attendance at the ceremony does not have an influence on the award results,” a source from SMA stated as quoted by Antara on Thursday. (liz/asw)
