Musician Ahmad Dhani has said he will not wear the #2019GantiPresiden (#2019ChangePresident) t-shirt anymore.

“I will not wear the #2019GantiPresiden t-shirt anymore,” he said as quoted by Kompas.com on Monday while attending his hate speech trial.

“I’m afraid if I continue wearing the t-shirt every week, the movement will grow. I only wore the t-shirt three weeks ago. After that, four big cities held [the movement] during their Car Free Day and it grew massively. I don’t want to be the reason for it,” he added.

Although stating he would not wear the t-shirt, Dhani said he would still attend activities held by the #2019GantiPresiden movement.

“I am ready to attend Car Free Day events around Indonesia for #2019GantiPresiden. I didn’t attend the one in Surabaya and I regret it because it’s my hometown,” Dhani said.

The Dewa 19 frontman added that he could have encouraged the public about the movement.

“I should have been braver for them, as the ACTA declaration said that wearing the #2019GantiPresiden t-shirt does not break the Constitutional Law,” he added.

Ahmad Dhani was seen wearing the #2019GantiPresiden t-shirt during the first trial session of his hate speech case at the South Jakarta district court. If found guilty, the singer faces up to six years' imprisonment.

The #2019GantiPresiden campaign has gained traction on social media as well as offline, most popularly in the form of t-shirts and merchandise worn by its supporters. (asw)
