The director of 212 The Power of Love, Jastis Arimba, has said the movie has no political intent, despite being set against the backdrop of the 212 rally.
The movie 212 The Power of Love from Warna Pictures production company will premiere on May 9.
Set against the backdrop of the 212 rally on December 2, 2016, held by Indonesian Muslims at Jakarta’s National Monument (Monas) as part of a rally against then-Jakarta governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, a Christian accused of committing blasphemy, many have anticipated that the movie would take a political tone.
However, director Jastis Arimba said the movie was not of a political nature.
“If there are assumptions that there are political interests in the movie, Insya Allah (God willing) they will not be proven,” said Jastis on Tuesday, as reported by tempo.co..

Starring Fauzi Baadila, Meyda Safira, Asma Nadia and Roni Dozer, the movie tells the story of a father and son who clash but eventually make peace during the 212 rally.
Jastis said the rally was a historic event, and that he wanted to capture it by telling stories that unfolded during it.
He added that many emotional and inspiring stories could be found at the rally. “They deserve to be told to the public,” he said. (wng)
