Jokowi asks celebrities to help promote 2018 Asian Games

resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo invited more than 100 people consisting of celebrities, artists, musicians and athletes to the State Palace on Tuesday.

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo asked dozens of famous guests to help promote the 2018 Asian Games, slated to be held in Jakarta and Palembang starting Aug. 18, through their social media and creative works.

"Hopefully [these people] who are very active on social media can continue to increase awareness [regarding the Games] through their Instagram and Facebook accounts," said Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) head Triawan Munaf as quoted by Antara.

Among the athletes attending the meeting were badminton mixed-doubles pair Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir and pair Susi Susanti and Alan Budi Kusuma, who have also made Indonesians proud in the global sports scene.

Meanwhile, among the musicians and artists attending were Marcell Siahaan, Once Mekel, Andre Hehanusa, Oppie Andaresta, Yuni Shara, Gading Marten, Indra Bekti, Indy Barends, Edi Brokoli and Irfan Hakim.

Presenter Indra Bekti said he was ready to help promote the Asian Games and bring it to the forefront of the public. Others, like Gading Marten, Rico Ceper and Iwa K., agreed to support their favorite athletes during the Games by promoting them through their social media channels.

Previously, during several limited meetings with related ministries, Jokowi continuously highlighted the importance of promotion to increase interest and participation from the public to ensure the success of the Games in Jakarta and Palembang. (kes)
