Popcon Asia this year rolls out new award categories to recognize Indonesian feature length films, as well as short films and web-series.
Pop culture festival Popcon Asia has launched new awards to recognize local films.
As reported by Antara news agency, Yenny Wangsawidjaja, Popcon Inc. CEO, in a statement said the Popcon Award for Indonesian feature films would complement existing recognition for local films.
There will be five categories for the Popcon Award recognizing Indonesian films, namely Most Memeable Film, Idola Kawula (Viewers' Idol), Best Duet, Best Horror and Best Product Placement.
Several film that have received nominations include Dilan 1990, Pengabdi Setan (Satans Slave), Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2 (Verses of Love 2), Marlina si Pembunuh dalam Empat Babak (Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts), Posesif (Possessive), Yowis Ben and Sebelum Iblis Menjemput (Before the Devil Comes for You).

In addition to feature-length films, Popcon will recognize short films and web-series, with award categories including Rising Filmmaker, Memorable Character and Outstanding Web-Series.
Specifically for the show's latest categories of Indonesian feature films, short films and web-series, Popcon Asia 2018 invited curators including Cinema Poetica founder Adrian Jonathan Pasaribu, blogger Stephany Josephine from "thefreakyteppy" and Candra Aditya, a film reviewer known for his unique writing style and keen eye for small details in films.
"The Indonesian Feature Films Popcon Awards recognize Indonesian films and the film industry as pop culture - which gives birth to scholars and creative talents who become the locomotive of Indonesia's creative field," Yenny said.
In addition to Popcon Award with film themes, there are others such as Comic Category, Game Category and for the first time, there are nominations for Best Boardgame of The Year.
This year, Popcon Asia is also set to display more film-themed content. (liz/wng)
