The members of a youth group of the Al Ikhwan Mosque in Medan, North Sumatra, were sitting on the floor, crossed legs, on Monday. Divided into two groups, male and female, they sat in circles while reciting the Quran together.
The activity, called tadarus Qur’an, is held every night during Ramadan after tarawih (evening prayers during Ramadan).
The group’s administrator, Jusuf Melan, said that, since not all of them knew how to recite the Quran correctly, they used the available time during the fasting month to study it.
Jusuf told The Jakarta Post that one of the members was a hafiz Quran (someone who has completely memorized the Quran).
“He is guiding us in reciting the Quran correctly,” he said.
