6 Indonesian movies screened in China as part of Shanghai movie festival

The screenings reportedly attracted both local moviegoers as well as the city’s Indonesian diaspora.

ix Indonesian films were screened in several movie theaters in China as part of the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) on June 15-17.

They were Aruna and Her Palate, Generasi Micin (MSG generation), Humba Dreams, Mountain Songs, Kafir (Infidels) and 27 Steps of May.

“We hope that our cooperation with the Shanghai film authorities can push forward the promotion of Indonesian culture in this city,” a spokesperson of the Indonesian Embassy, Wandi Adriano, said as quoted by tempo.co.

The screenings reportedly attracted both local moviegoers as well as the city’s Indonesian diaspora.

Among the films, Aruna and Her Palate starring Dian Sastrowardoyo, Nicholas Saputra, Hannah Al Rashid and Oka Antara was the most viewed as it gave the audience a glimpse of traditional Indonesian dishes, such as the Madura delicacy lorjuk and the Singkawang specialty pengkang.

Viewers were also awed by Sudjiwo Tedjo’s performance as a shaman in Kafir. (gis/kes)
