ovie lovers will have a chance to watch horror, drama and family-friendly films from the Netherlands during the 2019 Dutch Movie Festival, which will run from Friday until Sunday.
The festival, previously known as the Dutch Film Festival, will hold screenings for six selected titles at Erasmus Huis in Jakarta.
“It is a showcase of stunning Dutch movies. The festival presents horror, drama and children’s movies,” Erasmus Huis project manager Bob Wardhana said.
The festival will open on Friday at 7 p.m. with the screening of a horror/psychological thriller titled Zwart Water (Two Eyes Staring). Directed by Elbert van Strien, the film centers on the friendship between 9-year-old Lisa and the ghost of her mother's twin.
The 2010 movie was named the Grand Prix Best Film and Best Screenplay at Fantasporto International Film Festival in Portugal in 2011.
Bobby Boermans’ APP presents a kind of modern-day terror. It follows a psychology student who is terrorized by a mysterious app that leaks her personal videos and information. When she tries to delete it, terrible things happen to people around her.
Heartbreaking drama is presented in Waldstille, which follows Ben, who just served time in prison for causing his girlfriend’s death. He returns to his home in Waldstille to face his in-laws and reconnect with his daughter.
All the horror and drama aside, the festival also offers two other titles – Superjuffie (Super Miss) and Circus Noël – which can be enjoyed by the whole family. Both movies will be screened on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
Super Miss follows a teacher named Miss Josje, who turns into a superhero who saves and talks to animals after she takes a bite of chalk. Meanwhile, Circus Noël tells the story of Karo, who follows Victor and Tonie of Circus Noël on their journey to attend a prestigious circus competition.
