Via Vallen explained the story about her younger brother who has been tested positive for COVID-19.
Popular dangdut singer Via Vallen sent a message urging people to stop shunning those who have been infected with COVID-19.
On Monday, Via uploaded photos of her younger brother’s laboratory test, rapid test and swab test results in an Instagram post.
Her brother has tested positive for COVID-19, though his rapid test result was nonreactive. “I don’t want our parents to worry, so I urged him to undergo a swab test, though the hospital staff said we didn’t need to,” Via said. “We waited for about 10 days to get the result.”
“[Having] coronavirus is not shameful. [It] won’t infect you as long as you follow preventive measures, such as by wearing face masks and washing your hands regularly,” Via wrote. “So please stop shunning COVID-19-positive people. If you live alongside elderly people and children whose immune functions are weaker, please stay safe for them.”
The 28-year old singer added she didn’t know how the news about her brother had spread. She said that numerous people had requested a statement through her management.
Via explained that it all started when her brother suffered a nose bleed after hitting his head on the floor. She then asked her family to get medical checkups and her brother’s X-ray result showed that he had pneumonia. “But pneumonia is one of the symptoms of COVID-19, so I took him to one of COVID-19 referral hospitals,” she said.
The singer said that her brother had self-isolated at home for around two weeks. “My brother is safe at home, he doesn’t have any direct contact with the rest of the family. We maintain our distances. He has his own room, bathroom and a room to store food and drinks. He uses disposable utensils, he washes his own clothes,” Via said. “My family is also healthy.” (wir/wng)
