GrabFood's Makanthon culinary festival aims to support local food sellers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
rabFood, the food delivery service by ride-hailing service provider Grab, is running its inaugural Makanthon culinary festival until Dec. 13. It is being held to support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
A series of offers are available throughout the festival, including discounts of up to Rp 60,000 (US$ 4.25), flash discounts on Nov. 11 and Dec. 12 and promotions in various restaurants. The festival is available for Grab users in Jakarta, East Java's Surabaya, North Sumatra's Medan, West Java's Bandung, Yogyakarta, South Sulawesi's Makassar, South Sumatra's Palembang, Bali, Riau's Pekanbaru, Lampung and East Kalimantan's Balikpapan.
Customers, food merchants and drivers have the chance to win various items, such as gold, smartphones and vouchers, with a total of Rp 1 billion in prizes by participating in the festival. Customers will need to order meals via GrabFood to receive coupons, while food merchants and drivers should provide their best services to compete for the prize.
Makanthon’s peak event will take place on Dec. 18 where two main winners, the 24 best food merchants and 24 best drivers will be announced. The event will be livestreamed on GrabFood’s Facebook account.
GrabFood introduced new features in July and September, including Pesan Sekaligus (Order at Once), credit and debit card payment options, The Best Promotion and Tipping.
“Pesan Sekaligus allows customers to order various food items in one place or street at once,” Hadi Surya Koe, GrabFood Indonesia’s head of marketing, said during a press conference on Monday. “In The Best Promotion, customers are able to filter the best promotions offered by the merchants. […] In Tipping, customers can tip the drivers during the process of ordering their food.”
Food delivery has become an invaluable element in the country, especially during the outbreak. In May, Grab reported a 4 percent increase in GrabFood delivery orders following the implementation of physical distancing.
From July to August, Grab also saw a 153 percent increase in the number of new food merchants. “The average income of GrabFood’s merchants is also increasing,” said Hadi, adding that most of its customers ordered healthy food, coffee by the liter, ready-to-cook meals and food items in bulk.
Grab features various services, including GrabMart, GrabExpress, GrabKitchen and GrabInsurance. (wng)
