Akhirat: A Love Story will be released in the first quarter of 2021.
antasy-romance film Akhirat: A Love Story (Afterlife: A Love Story) released two images of its main characters at the 2020 IDEAFEST event on Saturday.
The first photo shows Timur (Adipati Dolken) and Mentari (Della Dartyan) running together and holding hands in a lush jungle. The second shows the pair staring at each other’s fingers in a room.
“Through the film’s first look photos, I want to show not only the main characters, but also the world inside [the film],” said Jason Iskandar, the film’s director and scriptwriter and the chief executive of film studio BASE Entertainment. “Hopefully, they depict what kind of journey people will see in the film.”
Shanty Harmayn, a producer at BASE Entertainment, said the company wanted to bring the film closer to its audience. “Both first look photos show a glimpse of the main characters’ chemistry,” Shanty said.
Set to be Jason’s directorial debut for a feature film, Akhirat: A Love Story wrapped up production in September under strict health protocols. It is now in the post-production period and will be released in the first quarter of 2021.
Akhirat: A Love Story follows the life of a young accountant named Timur who falls in love with a free-spirited artist named Mentari. One day, they’re involved in a car accident that puts them in a coma. They later find themselves at the intersection of the human world and the afterlife. Reluctant to be separated from each other, they explore the realm and meet other souls who have had the same fate.
The movie is a collaboration between BASE Entertainment and film community-production house Studio Antelope. Focusing on story development, intellectual property for various platforms, funding and film distribution in Indonesia, BASE Entertainment is also producing its first animated series Trese, which will be available on Netflix.
Based in Jakarta, Studio Antelope was founded by Jason and producer Florence Giovani. It aims to share stories on multiple platforms, from smartphones to cinema. (wir/wng)
