It's finally here! Season 5 of Rick and Morty has premiered on Adult Swim, and it looks like fans won't need to expect another hiatus between seasons anytime soon.
ans of the hit adult cartoon sitcom have been looking forward to the release of Season 5 of Rick and Morty since May 2020, when Season 4 left audiences with a cliffhanger. The long-awaited day finally arrived with the season premiere on June 20 in the United States.
This hiatus is not a first, as fans had to wait a lengthy two years between the previous two seasons. At the time, cocreator Dan Harmon told Entertainment Weekly that “the gap between seasons 3 and 4 will be the longest and last time it’s ever so long that it’s ridiculous”.
The Emmy-winning TV show takes viewers along on the intergalactic adventures of mad scientist Rick and his grandson Morty. Harmon and Justin Roiland, who also voice the titular characters, created the series for a 2013 debut on Adult Swim. The adult-oriented arm of Cartoon Network ordered 70 episodes back in 2018, which guaranteed six more seasons of the show.
In a June 1 interview with Syfy Wire, Spencer Grammer, who voices Morty’s older sister Summer, said, "There'll be more Rick and Morty before you know it this time. Unlike the many other times before where we were just making you all wait."
Sarah Chalke, the voice of Morty and Summer’s mother Beth, said in the same interview of Season 5: "It takes all things Rick and Morty up a notch to the next level. We get more family adventures all together and the animation is off the hook. That's all we can spoil."
Episode 1 of the new season is titled “Mort Dinner Rick Andre”, apparent in a twist on the 1981 comedy-drama film My Dinner with Andre, according to the show’s Fandom wiki page.
The 10 new Rick and Morty episodes premiere on Adult Swim in North America on Sundays at 11 p.m. Eastern Time. Viewers in Indonesia can watch the first four seasons of the show on Netflix.
