The Asian Para Games are approaching while memories of 18thAsian Games still linger in the minds of many Jakarta and Palembang were deemed successful in hosting the sporting event, the biggest Indonesia has hosted since 1962.

The opening ceremony was an eye-opener for many spectators and the spirit of the Asian Games soared that night even though many had doubted that Jakarta and Palembang could pull it off.

Sports venues attracted crowds, tickets to popular sports events sold out quickly and mementos of three rare Indonesian animals — the bird of paradise, the Javan rhino and the Bawean deer — sold like hotcakes at the official shop, which saw long lines of enthusiasts at its door in Senayan day after day.

Of course, the stars of the Games were the athletes. The months of training and practice, the strict lifestyle regime and all the sweat, hard work and tears culminated in the Games, in the great moments captured by The Jakarta Post photojournalists.
