Social distancing measures were taken at the funeral of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s mother on Thursday in Karanganyar, Central Java.
The President’s mother, Sujiatmi Notomiharjo, passed away in Surakarta, Central Java, on Wednesday after succumbing to throat cancer. She was 77.
Sujiatmi was laid to rest on Thursday in the family cemetery in Gondangrejo, Karanganyar, Central Java. Jokowi’s family limited the number of mourners to 500 to lessen the risk of spreading COVID-19.
Jokowi requested that members of his Cabinet focus on governmental affairs and send prayers from the capital rather than attend the funeral. (JP/Ganug Nugroho Adi)
